Sunday 18th is preparation day for the public "About Time Historical Festival" event, to be held at Glenthorne on May 25th.
We enjoyed the company of the Australian Conservation Volunteers. An energetic band of folk, who were keen to help us.
We have made major headway to establish the 2,000 m2 Native Grass compound, and the rabbit/hare/sheep proof fence is more that 50% constructed. The Friends will be planting some native grasses this season.

On Sunday May 25, join the University of Adelaide for a guided tour of the heritage sites at the Glenthorne Farm to learn about the rich history of the property as part of South Australia’s “About Time” History Festival during May 2014.
Presentation and guided tour by Dr Pamela Smith (School of Humanities, Flinders University) and Dr Keryn Walshe (South Australian Museum).
When: 10.00am (tour will last approximately 2 hours)
Where: At the stone barn at the southern end of the Glenthorne driveway off Majors Road, O’Halloran Hill (Opposite O’Halloran Hill TAFE)
Please park in the TAFE car park on the northern side of Majors Road. Designated parking spaces for visitors with a disability parking permit will be available within the Glenthorne property.
Tea and coffee will be provided by the University following the tour and you are invited to bring your lunch.

The Grey Box Community Group, Inc. will again be leading the charge in organising this very successful community event which raises awareness of this nationally endangered ecosystem. The Grey Box Community will have 1,000+ people attending to pick up their plants, go on guided walks, have a family fun day, listen to musical guests – The Yearlings,interact with animals from Cleland Wildlife Park,learn more about the diversity of communityorganisations in the hills and what they can do to get involved in conservation efforts, from their backyards and beyond! The Friends of Glenthorne will have a display set up to promote Glenthorne Farm and educate those attending about the issues and projects we have been working on in the past 12 months.
The plant sale and community event will be held on May 31st at the Main Pavilion in Belair National Park and run from 10am to 3pm. Grey Box Day is supported by a State NRM Program CommunityGrant and National Parks SA, State Flora and Natural Resources Adelaide & Mt Lofty Ranges region staff.
Grey Box (Eucalyptus microcarpa) Woodlands provide important natural habitats for many native animals such as possums, reptiles, butterflies and birds. Traditionally they extended from Sellicks Hill to Burnside, mainly along the Hills Face and Adelaide Plains. However since clearance its distribution has been reduced from over 20,000 hectares to under 2,000 hectares with most of the remaining woodland threatened by weeds, introduced animals, urbanisation and inappropriate recreational activities.
YOU CAN HELP by ordering plants to put in your home garden, spreading the word to neighbours and friends, and/or having a display on the day to raise awareness of your own organisation.
The plant packs MUST be pre-ordered on www.greyboxcommunity.org and then will be available for pick up at the event (available to residents living in Grey Box Grassy Woodlands, Cities of Mitcham, Onkaparinga, Unley & Burnside).
A weekend trip to the Quorn area is planned for later this year, when the weather in Adelaide is Wet and Cold, and the weather there is much more comfortable.
Let us know your suggested date, (before someone else beats you to it!) We will probably stay at a B'n'B place near Wool Shed flat. Some suggested activities are, a ride on the Steam Train, a hike to the top of Devil's Peak, window shopping in Quorn Antique shops, morning tea at the Quorn Bakery (Yum!!). Visit the local taxidermist. Other suggestions are welcome!
