Restoring Native Habitat and Heritage in Adelaide's South

Dear {name} {surname},

Enjoyment Day Information

Due to the private contractor demolition work being done on Glenthorne during June, we will not have access to Glenthorne for this month's Enjoyment Day.

So, we have decided to help the "Friends of O'Halloran Hill".  This will be the first "Combined Group" activity, and weather permitting, we will be helping them remove Olive seedlings, and Artichoke Thistles.

To comply with the current Covid-19 regulations, we need to limit this event to 20 people. (See the Covid stages and recommendations here) so, you MUST register your interest.

  • You can do this by clicking on the "Events" item on our website top menu, and then click this event,

This is the FIRST time we have used this "Registraion" function, so please let us know what you think.

Glenthorne National Park Update

Glenthorne (Ityamaiitpinna Yarta) was declared a National Park by the Govenor of South Australia, Hieu Van Le AC, on 28th May, 2020.
Both the Glenthorne property and the O'Halloran Hill Recreation Park have become the first two precincts to comprise the Park.  Other precincts will be added as legislation on these other precincts (Conservation Parks) is changed.

Nari Reserve Planting

Nari Reserve Planting Day – 27th June from 9.00am – planting a Butterfly Garden.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, you will need to BYO food and drinks. We hope to get a significant number of new plants into this area, so all the help we can get will be most appreciated.

Friends of Upper Field River

This active group will be doing two more workshops, on 9th & 11th July, near the Barton Drive Reserve, WoodEnd.

The main effort on these days will be Planting out the Slope, up to the Playground area. This area has been cleared of weeds, and will look good with Natives in this area. .

To find out more information and to get involved, please reply to this email, and we will help you get in touch with the Trees for Life group organising this.

Lobethal Bushland Park

The Australian Native Plant Society is hosting a bus tour (or Cars) to this area, to see for ourselves the amazing recovery of this area from the Bushfires earlier this year.

This tour is planned for Sunday 16th August, so book this in your diary. More information will be sent out closer to the date.

Glenthorne Book

Do you need a good read, and have some time on your hands? Then why not consider purchasing our very own Book, "Glenthorne, a Defining History & Indefinite Politics".

Written by Dr. Pam Smith, Dr. Keryn Walsh, and Mr. Alan Burns.  More information on getting your own copy on the Friends of Glenthorne web site here.  Or you may like to telephone Pam on 0428 315 266 on how to get one.

At just $40 ($30 plus $10 postage and handling), it makes a great gift and is a great read. It is the most detailed written history of the Glenthorne property and we are very proud of it.

Payment can be by way of cheque (posted in the mail) or electronic or cash deposit into the Friends bank account. Note that order forms must also be forwarded with payment to ensure your copy is accurately posted to you.

Glenthorne National Park Precincts

Did you know that the new Glenthorne National Park will have a number of Precincts? These precincts are existing parks, or areas that will become part of the New Park.  Most of these precincts have a vibrant "Friends of" group that looks after it, and enjoy what that area has to offer.

One of these groups is the "Friends of the Lower Field River", established in 2006. See their website here.
