Come along to an amazing evening of sound, with Andrew Skeoch.

Date: Wednesday 8 October 2025

Venue: Theatre, Charles Hawker Centre, Waite Campus, Waite Road, Urrbrae.

Time: 7.00 pm – 9.30 pm

Andrew Skeoch, an acoustic ecologist, who has spent the last 30 years travelling the world documenting and recording the sounds of nature, and whose book ‘Deep Listening to Nature’, is accompanied by a soundtrack of over 270 vibrant nature recordings allowing listeners to immerse themselves in wild soundscapes from around the globe, will be re-visiting Adelaide in October this year, as part of the Nature Festival SA, to deliver another of his truly inspiring talks.

As usual for Bush Care Days, we meet at Carpark One behind the Shearing Shed. (To get there, follow the Park Road down from the Ranger’s Station, then turn right into Carpark 1.)

Bushcare Events at Glenthorne NP-IY:

• Each Wednesday - 9am to noon.
• 1st  & 2nd Saturday 10-4pm
  3rd Sunday 10-4pm

At RDA (Riding for Disabled) 

• 4th Saturday:   9-12pm  (RDA Front Garden) Volunteers from the Riding For Disabled will be joining us for these Bush Care days at RDA.

Bushcare: It’s not Rocket Science, it’s much more difficult than that.

The 2025 "Friends of Glenthorne" AGM was an excellent success, and everyone enjoyed Professor Gardner’s talk on his work with the Pygmy Blue Tongue Lizards.

The election outcome is the following:

There are two vacancies on our committee, so if you would like to be part of our FoG decision making, and join our committee, then please let us know.

Each month, on "The Third Sunday", the Friends of Glenthorne are hosting a BBQ.

We will start BushCare as normal, at 10am, and then break for lunch to host a BBQ.  Bring your family, invite your friends, or let on of the Park Users to join us for a bit of social interaction.

GrassLand BushCare

Also, on the Third Sunday of each month, recent doctorate graduate of Adelaide Uni, Max, will continue BushCare on his Glenthorne research area, the Community Grassland. This Grassland BushCare will also start at 10am.

There is much to learn about Grasslands, and Max is willing to share his knowledge.

On each First Sunday of the Month, the Australian Plant Society - COOTS(*) group host a Plant Sale at their Clubrooms in Goodwood.

Where: 1 Minute Walk North from the Goodwood Railway Station.  21a Richards Tce. Goodwood. (East/Hills Side)

When: This Sunday, from 12 noon to 3.00pm.

There will be knowledgeable environmentalists attending so if you have any questions about native plants, birds, insects and other such matters, please come along and have a chat with the COOTS team.

The Glenthorne History book will also be on sale for just $35. Cash and credit card facilities available.

The new Majors Road On and Off ramps for the Southern Expressway at Majors Road have been constructed. 

Please join the Dept of Infrastructure and Transport at their community event to celebrate the opening of the new Majors Road Interchange.

COMMONWEALTH TALKS - Professor Don Markwell AM

Professor Don Markwwell, a former Rhodes Scholar, has served as a Fellow and Tutor in Politics at Merton College, Oxford, and as Warden of Rhodes House, Oxford.  In this role, Don supported over 200 Rhodes Scholars in residence and coordinated global alumni events.

Don has been a senior adviser to Australian Government Ministers on higher education and constitutional matters.

He has published widely on International Relations, Political science, constitutional history and education.

Recently, Don has been Head of St Mark’s College in Adelaide.

The tour runs for approx. 60-minutes.

Please meet in the lounge of the Adina Hotel, 2 Flinders Street, Adelaide.  The lounge is to the right as you enter from Flinders Street.

The cost is $18 per person for a minimum number of 10 participants.
