The Rangers were very pleased to report that finally, the BBQs have been repaired, and are working again.
To Celebrate this, the Friends of Glenthorne are launching "The Third Sunday" BushCare & BBQ (TTSBB). On the Third Sunday in each month, we will start BushCare as normal, at 10am, and then break for lunch to host a BBQ, and possibly a return to enjoying that delicious "Apple and Walnut" offering that some of us were quite partial to.
Also, on the Third Sunday of each month, recent doctorate graduate of Adelaide Uni, will continue his BushCare on his Glenthorne research area, the Community Grassland. Max will start at 9am. You might like to come early to help him.
There is much to learn about Grasslands, and Max is willing to share his knowledge.
See his Glenthorne Grassland Website at: https://www.glenthornegrassland.com. |

Woodcroft College Welcome
|
| |
|
This last Wednesday and Friday Woodcroft College students joined our rangers and bird-nerd Alan for a day of Glenthorne history, bird identification and planting in their own gully we now call Woodcroft Gully.
After a talk about the colourful history of our wonderful National Park, Alan and the rangers Angus and Reece, took groups of 6 – 10 students on walks along the creek line and around the Main Dam.
A number of bush birds were seen, including Red-browed Finches, Kookaburras, Adelaide Rosellas and today a pair of Black-shouldered Kites performed a fly past, appearing to fight mid-air.
It was a special sight.
We also saw a number of regular water birds. It was good to see that a pair of Hardhead Ducks had returned to Glenthorne as well as the usual Grey Teal, Pacific Black Ducks and Australasian Grebes.
The Year 11 students were great representatives of their college and will be writing assignments as part of their studies.
Woodcroft Gully will be revegetated by the college students over coming years and older students will help the younger ones learn about our wonderful National Park as they pass up through their years at Woodcroft College.
What a wonderful opportunity for these adults of the future to get in touch with nature and our unique and endangered local wildlife.
Thanks to teachers Ben, Ben, Simon and Susie for organising this long term project and we hope to get to know everyone better as we all work together on this important project.
Other schools should contact the Glenthorne rangers if they are interested in being involved in such long term projects. |

Native Plant Nursery Update
|
| |
|
On 26th June, Alan met with the DIT folk who are working on our Nursery. A Development Application is yet to be submitted, and final details to that Plan are being done. (Decisions like where the power points, windows, access doors, etc should be located)
With the typical timing needed for this process, and anticipating a month to build, once approval has been granted, we are really hoping that the nursery will be completed by the end of October this year. |
