Queens Pod Unveiling

We are privileged that The Minister for Environment and Water, Ms. Susan Close, will unveil a Plaque, that commemorates the planting of this Pod.

This Densely Planted Pod was planted out by members of the Royal Commonwealth Society - SA, and our members, on the day, we later heard, that Queen Elizabeth II had died.

When: Tomorrow, Friday 21 March, 2024 at 2:30-4:30pm.

Where: Meet at Car Park 2. Stay for Afternoon Tea.

Come and see this pretty area where the Queen's Pod is, with a spectacular view of the Southern Coast.

APS Plant Propagation Workshops

Now is the time to book your spot for the next series of propagation workshops hosted by the COOTS group.

These will be held on the following dates:

Saturday 22nd March
Saturday 29th March
Saturday 5th of April
Saturday 12th April
Saturday 19th of April.

There will be a Field Trip on one of these dates, probably the 19th of April.

As in previous workshops will be held in the Australian Plants Society's clubrooms, 21A Richards Terrace, Goodwood. This is a 2 minute walk from the Goodwood Railway Station.

Each session starts at 12.30pm and lasts for around three hours.

You will be able to learn all about the propagation of Australian plants using seed and cutting material, and all materials will be supplied, so other than your time, this is all free.

COOTS - (Conservation Of Our Threatened Species) is a sub-group of the Australian Plant Society Adelaide Group. They have Bush care sites at Cape Jervois, and Pine Point (YP)

Attention: All Yabbie Traps

Brad Martin is the Project Manager in SA for OzFish Unlimited (and Marion local). They are a not-for-profit fishing conservation organisation who work with communities on projects that restore our waterways and local fish habitats. Locally, our projects range from seagrass & shellfish reef restoration, to fish hotels and litter recycling.

OzFish will be hosting a series of 'Tackling Yabby Trap' working bees at the Oaklands Wetland Education Centre in the City of Marion to dismantle opera house yabby traps to be upcycled by OceanEarth back into usable fishing gear, and the metal frames will be recycled.

Opera house style yabby nets have been phased out in SA since July 2023 to better protect non-target animals like turtles, platypus, native water rats (rakali) and birds. As a part of the Yabby Trap Round-Up, OzFish has been collecting traps from all across South Australia.

They would be very grateful if you could join them in-person for an hour or more to chat about aquatic habitat restoration while recycling traps.
