Glenthorne National Park BushCare

This Sunday, (5/11/2023) is the Second Saturday Friends Bushcare Day for November.

Weeding and Mulching will be the main tasks. We will be trailering mulch and working on Pods 24 & 29.

Please wear appropriate clothing, and BYO lunch, drinking water, snacks etc.

Please note that from now we will now meet for all our Glenthorne Bushcare events at Carpark No 1.

This is the carpark behind (to the west of) the main machinery shed and Shearing Shed.

To get there, follow the Park Road down from the Ranger’s Station, along the main water-course, and at the first intersection take a right hand turn into Carpark 1.

There is always ample parking available at our agreed meeting time.

If you are unwell, please do the right thing and stay at home.

We will move out to the work areas after Sign-In. If you are late, then, if you do not know where the group will be, you will need to ring one of the following.

2023 AGM Report

Addendum: There were two over-sights in the last eNewsletter.

  • Chris Ide was also elected on to the committee as an extra member.
  • Our constitution only allows up to eight (8) committee members, and nine were nominated and voted on. When this was noticed, Judy Clarke graciously stepped down from the committee, and is now a guest consultant.  This allows her to participate in meetings, but she will not have voting rights.

The outcome of the elections are:

  • President - Martin Schumacher
  • Vice-President - Alan Burns
  • Secretary - Vacant
  • Treasurer - Karen Peake
  • Extra Members: Laima Kosiol, Bob Kirby, David Vinall, Margaret Wheadon, Chris Ide.
  • Guest Consultant: Judy Clarke.

Have you visited the Heysen Kitchen Cafe? It is one of the Shops on Heysen Drive, Trott Park. If you do, say "Hi" to our good friends, Rusty and Narina. Their fare is very good (they catered for our Butterfly Planting event) and they have an extensive menu.  Their opening times are:

  • Thursday 7:30 am–2 pm, 5–8 pm
  • Friday 7:30 am–2 pm, 5–8 pm

Acknowledgement of Country

The Friends of Glenthorne acknowledge that Glenthorne National Park - Ityamaiitpinna Yarta is part of the traditional lands of the Kaurna people and respect their elders past, present and emerging.

We appreciate the Kaurna people's innate and deep spiritual connection with the land and waters of Glenthorne and aspire to work alongside them in taking care of this land and community.

The Friends of Glenthorne are very keen to spend time with our First Nations people, to work with and together to care for Glenthorne, to try to restore Glenthorne to what this land used to be, and in our way to contribute to closing the Gap that exists for so many of our First Nations people.  In a few weeks, we all are given the right to direct our Government in this by voting in the Referendum for a Constitutional Recognition of a Voice for First Nations.

We hope you consider your choice carefully and read well the cases for "Yes" and "No" to this Voice.  You can read these cases in a pamphlet, available at the URL below, on the Australian Electoral Commission's website.

Yes/No case pamphlet - Australian Electoral Commission (aec.gov.au).

There are now also key lobby groups that are promoting their views on this referendum question.

See the bottom of the Cases Pamphlet for Yes/No for further information, or:

  • For the “Yes Vote” See https://www.yes23.com.au/ and see their case points for their view. On their website menu “Why Yes?"

  • For the :No” Vote, ‘Australians for Unity’. It is a merger of two groups, Recognise a Better Way (https://www.recogniseabetterway.org.au/) and Fair Australia (https://www.fairaustralia.com.au/).  See their case points for their view on the “Fair Australia" website, "Why Support No”.

  • Many of our nation’s churches have direct involvement with our First Nations peoples, and their views may also be helpful to you, since they have shared both the successes and set backs of helping to “Close the Gap"
On the website for the "National Council of Churches in Australia”  https://www.ncca.org.au is the section "Churches on a Voice to Parliament” which has links to the statements from the various churches.
