City of Marion - Weed Workshop

In the City of Marion volunteer survey late last year, many respondents mentioned wanting more training on weeds, so here is one opportunity to increase your skills and knowledge in identifying them.

Love our Trees

The City of Marion "Living Smarties", with support from Sustainable Communities SA, are running a program called Love Our Local Trees to celebrate the great things about trees in our streets, private gardens and parks. They are hoping that residents who love a tree in their local area can share why they love their tree in a short survey by 31st August (link below).

Their stories will be shared in the Nature Festival Tree Celebration event (Saturday, 14 October 2023, 11 am – 2 pm).

To find out more info and to access the survey go to Love Our Local Trees | Sustainable Communities SA

Acknowledgement of Country

The Friends of Glenthorne acknowledge that Glenthorne National Park - Ityamaiitpinna Yarta is part of the traditional lands of the Kaurna people and respect their elders past, present and emerging.

We appreciate the Kaurna people's innate and deep spiritual connection with the land and waters of Glenthorne and aspire to work alongside them in taking care of this land and community.

The Friends of Glenthorne are very keen to spend time with our First Nations people, to work with and together to care for Glenthorne, to try to restore Glenthorne to what this land used to be, and in our way to contribute to closing the Gap that exists for so many of our First Nations people.  In a few weeks, we all are given the right to direct our Government in this by voting in the Referendum for a Constitutional Recognition of a Voice for First Nations.

We hope you consider your choice carefully and read well the cases for "Yes" and "No" to this Voice.  You can read these cases in a pamphlet, available at the URL below, on the Australian Electoral Commission's website.

Yes/No case pamphlet - Australian Electoral Commission (aec.gov.au).

There are now also key lobby groups that are promoting their views on this referendum question.

See the bottom of the Cases Pamphlet for Yes/No for further information, or:

  • For the “Yes Vote” See https://www.yes23.com.au/ and see their case points for their view. On their website menu “Why Yes?"

  • For the :No” Vote, ‘Australians for Unity’. It is a merger of two groups, Recognise a Better Way (https://www.recogniseabetterway.org.au/) and Fair Australia (https://www.fairaustralia.com.au/).  See their case points for their view on the “Fair Australia" website, "Why Support No”.

  • Many of our nation’s churches have direct involvement with our First Nations peoples, and their views may also be helpful to you, since they have shared both the successes and set backs of helping to “Close the Gap"
On the website for the "National Council of Churches in Australia”  https://www.ncca.org.au is the section "Churches on a Voice to Parliament” which has links to the statements from the various churches.
