Glenthorne National Park Bush Care Day

This Sunday, (5/1/2023) is our first Friends Bushcare Day for February, and for some, for this year.

The main activities will be Halo slashing of Phylaris around the Rushes, in the Second Reveg area, Hand weeding and seed collecting.

The weather looks quite promising, so you may like to be prepared with sunscreen and a hat, and some brown paper bags for seed collecting.

Please BYO lunch, drinking water, snacks etc. If you are unwell, please do the right thing and stay at home.

We will meet in the Majors Road Ranger Station carpark from 9.45 am, and we will move to the work area at 10am. If you are late, then,  if you do not know where the group will be, you will need to ring one of the following.

Martin: 0403 804 306

Alan:   0411 595 910

Karen:  0479 048 394

Please park in the Ranger Station car park and walk to the site we are working on as described above, look out for people in the high vis vests.  As the park is currently under construction we are trying to minimise the amount of vehicles entering the park, and we do not want general members of the public thinking that they can just drive in too!  If you do not have the capacity to walk that distance, please reply to this email, before Sunday, or Ring the Phone number above, and one of our members transporting equipment will provide you with a lift into the park.

For those of you that need to drive in to bring in equipment for the group, please shut the gate into the park as much as you can and place any orange bollards back in place in order to prevent unwanted vehicles entering the park.  Please adhere to any other signage and bunting relating to the visitor hub construction site, this area is off limits to the public and volunteers, unless permission is given by the Project Officer or Senior Ranger Bec Brown for the specific day and activity.

The suggested items to bring along/wear:

  • long pants and sleeves,
  • hat, sun-screen
  • enclosed shoes or boots
  • snacks / lunch
  • drinking water

Please remember that we hold Bushcare Days on the first and Third Sundays, second Saturday, of each month, along with each Wednesday morning. All are welcome.

Updated Revegetation Management Plan

Revegetation Manager, Sam Chesson, has released an updated "Friends of Glenthorne Park - Ityamaiitpinna Yarta" Site Plan.

This is an exciting document, that identifies 12 areas within Glenthorne that the Friends can work on, and detailed with what is required in these areas.

Riding for the Disabled Garden

The Friends of Glenthonrne has started planting out a Garden at the Riding for Disabled site, on Majors Rd,  opposite Glenthorne.

As you may know, the Riding for Disabled is on land that is part of the Glenthorne National Park, and is leased to them from the SA Government.

The RDA site will also require lots of future work, so if you are interested in helping us there, and building a good relationship with RDA, then we have Bush Care days there starting 9am on the 4th Saturday of each month.

Acknowledgement of Country

The Friends of Glenthorne acknowledge that Glenthorne National Park - Ityamaiitpinna Yarta is part of the traditional lands of the Kaurna people and respect their elders past, present and emerging.

We appreciate the Kaurna people's innate and deep spiritual connection with the land and waters of Glenthorne and aspire to work alongside them in taking care of this land and community.
