Glenthorne National Park Bush Care Day

This Sunday, tomorrow, (4/09/2022) is another Friends Bushcare Day, and our Revegetation Manager, Sam Chesson, has plants for the new Water Mitigation levies, just down from the Ranger's Station.

When work in these levies has finished, we will move up to our old haunting ground, the Native Grass Compound, to slash, hand week, and spread mulch.

Even if you only have a couple of hours, your help would be appreciated. Go to the Park Entry Gate, past the Rangers Station building and look for the hi-vis vests and please don’t forget to sign in.

The weather will be fairly good, but please be prepared for cool weather and muddy ground.

Please BYO lunch, drinking water, snacks etc. We are still operating under Covid conditions, so please exercise safe distancing. If you are unwell, please do the right thing and stay at home. We will meet in the Majors Road Ranger Station carpark from 9.45 am.

The suggested items to bring along/wear:

  • long pants and sleeves,
  • hat
  • Warm jacket
  • enclosed shoes or boots (or rubber boots even better)
  • snacks / lunch
  • drinking water

Please remember that we hold Bushcare Days on the first and Third Sundays, second Saturday, of each month, along with each Wednesday morning. It is likely that we will be planting on these days for a few weeks yet. All are welcome.

Next Bush Care Days this month:

  • Each Wednesday at 9am
  • Saturday 10th September at 10am
  • Sunday 18th September at 10am

Request from Friends of Waite

A request has come through from the Friends of Waite Conservation Reserve.  It is the time of year ideal to burn piles of sawn olive branches to improve access for follow-up olive control.

Are you available this Tuesday 6 September, 8.45am – 2.00pm, contingent on weather and sufficient helpers.

Burning will occur on the Waite Conservation Park, on the Western Slopes below Netherby Spur, accessed from Gate 82.

Conditions are steep and uneven so you must be physically fit.

The work involves some dragging of nearby branches, feeding the fire, and keeping a watch on the burn piles.

Confirmation and instructions will be provided later, and a safety induction conducted prior to the burn.

If you would like to attend, then please reply to this email , and we will forward your request on to Friends of Waite, and they will contact you.

Also, please advise days you might be available later in the week or the following week when they will hold a second burn in the Stone Reserve.
