Hi to all our Friends.
We have all recently heard about the State of the Environment Report from the Federal Government which outlined how poorly our environment is going. Most categories have deteriorated since the last report in 2016. Our environment needs our help, and this Wednesday is another opportunity to help.
This Wednesday (27/07/2022) we are holding a follow-up Propagation Workshop at the RDA site on Majors Road. You don’t need to have been involved in the first propagation workshop to be involved this time around.
We do need your help.
Many of our growers have either had poor germination or have had extremely good germination results since we sowed native seed back in January.
In the first case, we will be helping those growers re-seed their tubes with native grass – predominantly Wallaby Grass species. In the second case, we will be separating the seedlings (not the grasses – they don’t need to be separated) into individual tubes so that they can grow freely without competition. The aim will be to save as many seedlings as we can so that they can be planted into the Glenthorne National Park.
If you are free, we would love you to come along and join us.
The RDA organisation had again kindly allowed us to use their premises, so we will be out of the weather – wind and rain.
If you have experience with native plants, even better.
If you have plants which you are growing for us and need our help to separate them, but can’t make the event on Wednesday, please call me on 0411595910 and I will try to pick them up before Wednesday and help you out.
If you are new to the Friends, then now is a good chance to come along and meet a few of our group. If you missed out last time but would like to foster a tray or two of plants at home until they are ready to plant out, please let me know.
Most of the gear will be supplied, but if you have your own tools, please bring them along.
BYO water, snacks, and lunch.
Trays, tubes, soil, fertiliser, Pearlite, Vermiculite, gravel etc will be provided. We must remain Covid conscious. We will be operating is a well-ventilated arena, but if you are ill, please remain at home. Masks are recommended but not compulsory.
If you would like to help, but have doubts, please call me on 0411595910. We would appreciate your assistance.
I look forward to seeing you on Wednesday.
Kindest regards,
Alan Burns
President
