Friends of Glenthorne Bush Care Day & AGM

Dear Friends,

This Sunday (17/07/2022) was planned to be another Friends of Glenthorne NP Bushcare Day. Unfortunately, the forecast heavy rain this Saturday and Sunday means that the Glenthorne National Park Ityamaiitpinna Yarta will be a bit too wet and muddy for much work, so we have decided to cancel the event and let the seedlings already planted enjoy the rain. We do hope you will come along to the Community Planting Day on Sunday 31 st July. Bookings and details are via the DEW website. All welcome.

2022 Friends of Glenthorne National Park AGM: August 10 the ,

2022 (Wednesday) at the Hallett Cove Lutheran Church, from

6.30pm.

AGM starts at 7.00pm.

In about 4 weeks’ time, the Friends will be holding their 2022 Annual General Meeting and you are invited. The evening will include speakers Henry Rutherford from Green Adelaide and again Jarrod Eaton will give those in attendance an update on the progress at the National Park.

The AGM business will follow, including reports from the President and Treasurer and elections for all eight positions on the committee.

To vote at the AGM, attendees are required to be financial. Membership fees are due on the date of the AGM, and we urge you to join as a financial member and consider joining the committee. Office bearers include President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer plus a further 4 committee members and we are always looking for new, motivated committee members.

There are many opportunities for you to be involved in the establishment of the park in the year ahead, utilising your time and skills. Bushcare Days are held on 3 weekends per month (first Sunday, second Saturday and third Sunday), plus the regular Wednesday morning group and members have been planting, watering and weeding areas of the park and more. This effort is now being rewarded with progress in revegetating the National Park and in the amazing growth of the prior year’s plantings. These Bushcare Days have become very enjoyable despite the work effort, and we have a strong and passionate volunteer force which has achieved so much in recent months and years. Many of our volunteers are new, so why not come along and join us?

Other volunteer opportunities include utilising your technological skills to maintain our Facebook page and website and production of our E-Newsletter, propagating native plant species, helping with bird surveys, being involved with the production of the second edition of the Glenthorne information book, interpreting and researching the heritage and historic buildings or even organising speakers for General Meetings.

If you want to be involved, please join us at the AGM in August and let us know the ways you would like to help this wonderful project. Membership Officer, Kath Rayner will be at the door on the night, or you can call Kath on 0408622334 to discuss your ideas.

The AGM evening will conclude with supper – tea, coffee and eats provided, so please come along, and join us in celebrating what has been a very productive year in so many ways.

Covid rules will be enacted. 1.5m distancing, hand sanitiser provided, masks recommended, and supper will be served by the Friends. Please bring your own cup, if possible, to reduce the chance of infection spread.

I hope to see you on the night.
