Hi to all our Friends.
This Saturday (11/06) is our next Bushcare Day and we need your help. If you wanted to be a part of planting the new National Park hub, then this is your opportunity.
Tomorrow morning, we have the exciting task of planting a special native garden in the newly constructed Hub area, to honour an anonymous donor who donated a significant sum to the revegetation work in the hub area. This donation, in addition to assisting many other works, helped finance the purchase of 10,000 plants for this area, which will be the jewel in the Glenthorne National Park crown. The plants for tomorrow’s planting have been specifically chosen to form a great tribute garden, so please come along and join in the fun.
We do hope that you can come along and help us out, after last Sunday’s Bushcare Day was cancelled due to extreme weather conditions, including heavy rain.
Many of the core members will be on-site all day, doing various tasks once the garden is finished. Feel free to drop in anytime. Look for the hi-vis vests and don’t forget to sign on and out if you are coming along to help.
The weather should be much better than last week. I have heard that O’Halloran Hill has received between 125mm and 150mm (5 to 6 inches) since the 25th of May, so there is a lot of mud around. Rubber boots and rain jackets are strongly recommended.
We will likely work until about 4.00 pm so if you are staying on, please BYO lunch, drinking water, chair, snacks etc. We are still operating under Covid conditions, so please exercise safe distancing and if you are unwell, please do the right thing and stay at home. Hand sanitiser will be available. Masks are not mandatory.
We will meet at the Majors Road Ranger Station carpark from 9.45 am so that the necessary signing-in can take place and some brief safety instructions/induction can be given. We are allowed to park in the Ranger Station carpark, but we must keep the gate closed as the entrance is not yet ready for the public and there is a safety issue. Just look for the volunteers in hi-vis vests or call Alan on 0411595910 if you are late.
The suggested items to bring along/wear:
- long pants and sleeves,
- hat
- sunscreen
- enclosed shoes or boots (or rubber boots even better)
- snacks / lunch
- drinking water
- Chair
Please remember that we hold Bushcare Days on the first Sunday, second Saturday and third Sunday of each month, along with each Wednesday morning. We do hope that you can join us and please bring your family along to have fun while getting some important work done.
All are welcome.
All the best and thanks to all our many valued members and supporters.
