This Sunday will be a Native Grass Seeding Day at Glenthorne

As you may know, we normally have our Bush Care Days on the First and Third Sunday, the Second Saturday (and every Wednesday) of each month.

But, this weekend, it just happens that Saturday is the second Saturday, and Sunday is the third Sunday. This doesn’t happen very often, but we don’t want to have two Bush Care days on the same weekend.  So we will only meet at Glenthorne this weekend on Sunday, (and not Saturday, which is the Nari Reserve Planting Day), so we hope this anomaly doesn’t upset any other plans you may have this weekend.

It will be a special day, because 

• It will start at 9:30am (not 10 am)
• The Hon. David Speirs, the leader of the Opposition and Shadow Minister for the Environment, will be there, following his long absence and recovery from Covid.
• We will be doing hand broad-cast seeding of Wallaby Grass and an Astrostipa (Spear) Grass on a new patch along the Warhorse Drive,
• It will probably rain on Sunday.  This is great, because it will water-in the grass seeds, so,

You may like to bring your dancing boots, and do a "Frank Sinatra" at Glenthorne, while you go out seeding!

Suggestions of what else to bring:

• An umbrella (at the time of writing there’s an 80% chance of rain on Sunday, but we’re not sure where in Adelaide in particular. Glenthorne? Maybe!
• Boots that will cope with mud,
• Sunscreen and a Hat (you can still get sun-burn at this time of the year, UV is highest between 11am - 2pm)
• Lunch and Drinking water, snacks
• Long pants and sleeves, 
• Chair

We will likely work until about 4.00pm so if you are staying on, please BYO lunch, drinking water, chair, snacks etc. We are still operating under Covid conditions, so please exercise safe distancing and if you are unwell, please do the right thing and stay at home. Hand sanitiser will be available. Masks are not mandatory.

We will meet at the Majors Road temporary carpark at 9.30am so that the necessary signing in can take place and some brief safety instructions / induction can be given. Just look for the volunteers in Hi-Vis vests or call Alan on 0411595910 if you are late.

If you are a resident in the City of Marion council area, then you may be interested to know that the City of Marion recognises there are many benefits to residents developing and maintaining the verge adjoining their property. Key benefits include greening of our local streets, improving local biodiversity and establishing greener corridors throughout our city.

The Verge Incentive Fund is a one-year trial, providing a rebate to encourage more residents to beautify the verge area, in line with the Verge Development Guidelines.

A total of 50 per cent of the costs of developing the verge, capped at a rebate of $500 per property can be applied for.

There are a limited number of rebates available.
