Ninna marni (hello, how are you?) Friends,
Hi everyone.
This Saturday is the second Saturday of December and another Bushcare Day at the Glenthorne National Park Ityamaiitpinna Yarta.
Some of our group will be attending the opening of the Happy Valley Reservoir at 9.30am. We understand that the entrance is near the corner of Chandlers Hill Road and Happy Valley Drive. All are welcome and if you are coming along, please be early to get a park and find the site of the festivities. Environment and Water Minister, David Speirs, the Deputy Premier and Steve Murray MP will all be there for the ceremony.
During the day some of the Friends will be at the marquee at the corner of Main South Road and Majors Road, talking to visitors who may come across from the reservoir to have a look at the Glenthorne National Park Ityamaiitpinna Yarta.
Others will be weeding, mulching, watering and seed collecting, starting in the Ranger Station car park.
If you are free, please meet in the carpark of the Rangers Station on Saturday morning (11th of December) at 9.45am so that the necessary signing in can take place and some brief instructions can be given. If you are available later in the day, you can still join us. Just look for the volunteers in hi-vis vests.
The suggested items to bring along:
- long pants and sleeves,
- hat
- sunscreen
- enclosed shoes – boots may be a good option this Saturday
- snacks
- drinking water
- chair if you are staying for lunch
We do operate under current Covid-19 restrictions. If you are staying for lunch,
please BYO lunch, chair etc.
Saturday’s weather looks reasonable, just the sort of day to get out to the National Park but please be sun smart. We hope you can join us this Saturday.
Please don’t forget, we need your help.
The Friends have secured a grant for a Help Us Grow Native Plants at Home project, where we will be looking for volunteers to train and help us to grow 5,000 native plans for planting next winter. If you, your family, or your school or your scout group or friends are interested, please call Alan on 0411595910. We will provide a training workshop, and everything needed to grow native plants for the National Park. Volunteers just need to be committed to watering their plants over summer, no experience necessary.
Nakutha (goodbye) and all the best,
Alan Burns
