Hi everyone. I hope you are looking forward to the long weekend. Just in case you aren’t going away somewhere nice in regional SA, don’t forget that this Sunday is our first Bushcare Day for October 2021, and we would like you to join us.

If you are free, please meet in the carpark of the Rangers Station on Sunday morning (3rd of October) at 9.45am so that the necessary signing in can take place and some brief instructions can be given. We have the last few plants to go in and we will be spreading more mulch, which has been provided in piles close by, to reduce the need to carry it up the hill. There may be a few other tasks to work on, but nothing too stressful on a holiday long weekend Sunday.

The usual suggested items to bring along:

• long pants and sleeves,
• hat
• sunscreen
• enclosed shoes
• snacks
• drinking water
• rain is forecasted on the day so we also recommended a raincoat and boots.

We do operate under current Covid-19 restrictions. If you are staying for lunch, please BYO lunch, chair etc.

More good news.

We have put in a grant application to fund a project which involves our volunteers growing native plants at home for the National Park. Everything will be provided, including training and support, so start thinking if this is something which you might be interested in. Some people have contacted me about this, so I know that there are volunteers out there, just waiting to get started. It does take some commitment, but this will all be explained, should our grant be successful. It is likely that a propagation workshop will be held in a few months’ time with seed collection to happen late this year and sowing to happen early in 2022. Hopefully, the grant will be approved to allow this to happen.

We will also be working on a grant application for a propagation nursery – a longer-term project – but it is a bit early to say too much at this stage. Good things are happening all around the Glenthorne National Park Ityamaiitpinna Yarta. We do hope that you can find the time to join us this Sunday. If not, why not visit at any time for a walk along the loop trail and keep your eyes open for the Fan-tailed Cuckoo which has been seen in recent days. We are always interested in hearing about any unusual birds you may see in and around Glenthorne.
