The Labour Party – Community Space and the Environment
The State Government will transform 208 hectares at Glenthorne Farm into an outdoor community hub
with experiences such as a working urban farm, a nature playground and ‘camp training’ for beginner campers.
A New Future for Glenthorne Farm seeks community input to co-design this expansive greenspace
in Adelaide’s south into a multi-use public site where individuals and families can connect with nature and learn about sustainability.
While the Labor Government has a broad vision for the site, community and stakeholders are invited to put forward creative ideas
to enliven the area with nature-based, sustainable activities for families and friends to enjoy.

Australian Conservatives
The Australian Conservatives do not want to see any subdivision of Glenthorne farm.
The Aust Conservatives would seek a Select Committee enquiry into the handling of Glenthorne over the past 20 years to seek out those who have plotted to sell-off this State asset and then proceed with a legislated Board which would oversee the planning of Glenthorne’s future. The Board would include Ministers, industry experts (PIRSA / SARDI), representatives from the University of Adelaide and local community members. The ACs see significant revegetation for biodiversity, developed and expanded wetlands, walking trails and public access and a significant amount of land, possibly up to 60% of the property, being used for diversified sustainable agriculture. Scientific research and development is seen by the ACs as extremely important in order to boost the existing agricultural activities of the Fleurieu Peninsular and this would include viticulture and other food bowl ventures.
SA_Best
Nick Xenophon’s SA-Best party supports the retention of Glenthorne farm as a premium open space for community. This includes areas of revegetation and community use as a self-sustaining environmental, heritage and recreation site. SA-Best is also open to sharing the site, possibly with organisations such as the RSPCA where there are synergies and any development is low impact.
The Greens – Preserving the Environment and Heritage
The Greens, Mark Parnell MLC, stated: ‘the Greens have consistently opposed the sale of Glenthorne Farm and support it remaining as open space’.
Mark added that the Government should work with the Friends to ensure that it is retained as open space, is accessible to the public, and include appropriate revegetation.
